Quick answer
There is no universal winner. Choose based on the work you need to do, the tools you already use, and how well each assistant handles your own examples. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude overlap, but their current feature sets and integrations are not identical.
| Your priority | What to evaluate first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| General assistant for mixed tasks | ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude side by side | All can support conversational tasks; test your own everyday prompts. |
| Research using Google services | Gemini | Gemini Deep Research can use Google Search by default and may include connected Gmail or Drive sources when enabled. |
| Research, files and broader workflows | ChatGPT | ChatGPT documents tools for web search, deep research, file uploads and data analysis; availability varies by plan and settings. |
| Writing and document creation | Claude and ChatGPT | Both document file-creation workflows; test output quality and editing effort for your format. |
| Visual or interactive outputs | Test ChatGPT and Claude | ChatGPT supports image generation and analysis; Claude documents Artifacts and file creation. Exact capabilities depend on product and plan. |

A fair 20-minute test
- Choose three tasks you genuinely do: one writing task, one research or reasoning task, and one file or data task.
- Use the same prompt, source material and success criteria in each product.
- Check factual accuracy against reliable sources, not just writing style.
- Record how much editing was needed and whether the tool handled follow-up instructions.
- Check plan limits, privacy controls, supported integrations and renewal price before paying.
Our practical recommendation

- Confirm which features are available in your country and on your account.
- Compare current free and paid limits on the provider's own pricing page.

- Re-test periodically because models and product features change.
